1. Context

Inactivity is now recognised as a major public health concern. The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that physical inactivity is the fourth leading risk factor for global mortality, responsible for 6% of deaths globally – around 3.2 million deaths per year. So, the urgency of combatting inactivity and sedentary behaviours can hardly be over-stated.

This questionnaire is called PASSPORT and is part of the PACTE project led by the Sport and Citizenship think tank and funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union. It was developed to understand the situation of cities in regards to the physical activities of their citizens, and help improve it.

This questionnaire is directed at cities of all sizes. Our goal is to have a standardized tool to provide a systematic approach to capturing details of relevant physical activity policies.

The results will lead to the creation of resources to turn cities into Active Cities.

We believe that cities hold the key in reversing the physical inactivity trend.

We are all designed to move, we believe our cities should be too!
