A hybrid experiment - streaming oral storytelling

thank you for watching TIL BUNNS.

I would be delighted if you could take the time to participate in this survey. It will help me understand how a "storytelling-theatre-film" hybrid works and which potential it has.

The questions allow you to choose multiple answers. In addition, I have added comment boxes as this is such an unfamiliar form to me, that I am not totally sure if I really know what I am looking for!

I should probably also warn you, that the survey contains spoilers. So, don't participate if you plan to see the performance in German/English at a later stage and do not want to get certain details revealed.

* 3. With regards to the streaming, which of the following applies to you?

I watched the whole piece.

I stopped watching as I found the online situation too difficult.

I left the computer/ device during the streaming but came back to continue watching.

The show could have lasted longer.

1 hrs and 15 min was enough as an online hybrid piece.

I find it difficult to engage with oral storytelling online.

I would have preferred it to be a "live" stream (eg. the stream takes place at the same time as the show is performed on a stage.)

It makes no difference to me, that the show was pre-recorded.

I didn't notice that it was pre-recorded.

I would have liked to be able to leave comments in a chat box whilst it was streamed.

I used a computer to watch the stream.

I used a phone.

I saw it on a big screen.

I could follow the different storylines.

I stopped watching as I couldn't connect with the piece.

I got an idea of the shape of the island.

I had a clear understanding of the use of space in relation to the different storylines.

I "saw" the images of the stories.

Being in front of a screen distracted me from getting involved with the content of the piece.

I was moved by the stories.

The physicality of the characters got lost due to not being in the same space as the performer (f.ex. the full body image got lost due to the use of close-ups).

I did not link the characters in the dream with the story of the merman.

The wedding could have been longer.

My focus was on the camera technique rather than on the content.

I felt "looked at".

I felt connected with the performer.

For me the notion of storytelling was kept even though the show was streamed.

I felt no connection.

I perceived the performance more "acted" than told.

I was watching the performer more than listening to the story.

The use of film as a medium, f.ex. through close-ups, shifts the focus from the story to the performer.

I would have liked more close-ups.

I could not get a feeling for the space in relation to the storylines.

I noticed that the show was pre-recorded.

The connection with the performer got lost during the wide-angle shots.

I got the feeling that there is an audience in the theatre.
