European Roma Holocaust Memorial Day

We cordially invite you to the commemoration ceremony of the European Roma Holocaust Memorial Day on 2 August 2019 at the Auschwitz-Birkenau memorial site. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the murder of the 4.200-4.300 Sinti and Roma on 2 August 1944 in the camp section B II e, what the SS called the “gypsy family camp” at the German concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. In 2015, the European Parliament has declared this day the "European Roma Holocaust Memorial Day" to commemorate the 500,000 Sinti and Roma murdered in Nazi-occupied Europe. The commemoration ceremony is organized by the Central Council of German Sinti and Roma and the Association of Roma in Poland in cooperation with the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum.
