Losing their Zen: Americans are stressed about things they can’t control

Losing their Zen: Americans are stressed about things they can’t control

Americans seem to be getting more stressed out lately… and now we know why.

A majority of the country has felt overwhelmed, anxious or nervous since the last election, according to a new survey by wellness service Grokker. But that stress is coming from perhaps unexpected sources.

It turns out people feel more anxiety about global or national issues–global stability, terrorism, and the political climate–than about those that could affect them directly.

That’s the main takeaway from the 2017 State of Stress Survey which Grokker ran using SurveyMonkey Audience.

Global warming is scarier than a bad boss

According to the survey, more people worry about…

  • …global terrorism than about being killed by a gun
  • …melting ice caps than about their annoying boss
  • …bigotry, racism, sexism, and xenophobia than about their own marriage

Who would’ve thunk it, right? Having instant access to millions of respondents helped Grokker discover a lot of very interesting facts and trends to create a very compelling infographic, which you can check out below.

You will find more surprising conclusions, including President Trump’s influence on the nation’s mental health and a look at the stress levels of the millennial generation.
